Royal Air Force x Gray - 43mm
This is a collaboration between Stirling Timepieces and the Royal Air Force Aircrew Profession Advisors at HQ Air Command. The watches are named after Fg Off Donald Garland VC or Sgt Thomas Gray VC, who were awarded the first Royal Air Force Victoria Crosses of World War 2 for actions during the Battle of France. Garland and Gray failed to return, having successfully led, and pressed home, an attack in their Fairey Battle targeting a critically important bridge to slow the enemy advance on 12 May 1940.
The design of the watch reflects the classic features of the Service “6BB” and “6B” Aircrew watches that featured the luminous white triangle and/or 2 dots at the 12 o’clock position. It features detail to make it recognisable as Aircrew, from the discrete STANAG 3109 inverted red triangle, to the yellow and black second hand found on controls and levers. The crown is also embellished with the classic “RAF” logo featured on many badges, including flying badges.
Each timepiece will be individually serialized, and your own service number can also be added, ensuring a unique and identifiable mark of authenticity. This meticulous detail reinforces the exclusivity and craftsmanship of the collection, adding a personalized touch to each watch. The serial and service number will be discreetly incorporated on the case back, offering a refined yet distinctive element that further elevates the overall design and value of the timepiece. The watch is delivered in a Stirling branded mini peli case.
For every watch sold, £15 will be donated to the RAF Benevolent Fund, supporting the vital work they do for serving and former Royal Air Force personnel. Each order will also include the relevant metal wings, either Mission Aircrew or Pilot, to accompany your timepiece.
Should the order number reach 50 then the black zulu strap will be replaced by a single-piece military strap in the colours of the RAF Flying Badges – Dark Blue, Ecru and Khaki. The strap comes with a black PVD buckle with a Stirling Timepieces logo along with black keepers. The 50 will also trigger the ability to order the strap in RAF Flying Badge colours from the Stirling Timepieces website going forward.
Due to the inclusion of an official image within this design, it is necessary to obtain a license from the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The MOD reserves the right to decline a license if the design does not comply with their guidelines. In the unlikely event that this may occur, a new design will be developed collaboratively between Stirling Timepieces and the project lead. All individuals involved will be promptly informed in such a case.
Please note that due to the use of a screw-down case back, the orientation of the Fairey Battle and Gray VC or Garland VC engraving cannot be guaranteed.
